The past few months have been like a true start-up journey, with some amazing successes and some hiccups along the way.
For successes, the time in the lab has been better than we hoped, with a formula coming together that's even "creamier" than expected; smoother (and dare we say "tastier") then other ice creams or frozen desserts in the market!
As for hiccups, it's mainly been a longer, slower road, and the mistake of trying to figure out too many details at once (co-packers that would manufacture on a large scale, 500-lbs ingredient minimums, and lengthy written business plans, are just a few).
Now some really good news
As of this past week, Jananas has had a breakthrough -- a friend with his own phenomenally successful start-up, gave Jan the best advice: to keep it simple, and grassroots -- just make the ice cream and sell it, don't worry about anything else! To make it in the kitchen, trying it with friends and family, and if they like it asking them to buy. Just get making it! He'll even be my first customer, and place a re-order.
Hearing that advice was beyond a breath of fresh air, lifting the huge weight of trying to make a company before one sale had been made. It sparked the excitement again, and the joy of creating, each day making clear progress: ordering specialty equipment? Check. Sourcing containers? Check. Pricing and deciding ingredients? Check.
All together that means we'll get ice cream out and our first sale within two weeks!
Now until then and our next update, we'll leave you with an "aww"-inducing image of a dog and ice cream, just because. We hope you like.

(Note for Kickstarter Taste-testers: Once we have a few runs made, we'll schedule two tasting open-houses, one in Toronto and one in Oakville. At them we'll be having full-serving samples, with pints available for purchase so you can enjoy at home.)
